'Anger Management': A Key Component in Addressing Social and Empathy Deficits in Sex Offenders

Sex offenders with severe anger issues have been excluded from outpatient treatment. Yet even the most passive offenders will have problems with social skills and a tendency toward aggressive or violent responses when their resources are low or exhausted. The sex offender who learns to identify, label and communicate feelings is on the path toward learning empathy. Through anger management intervention the offender learns self control, identifying his anger cycle and intervening with his feelings and behavior in a socially appropriate manner. Ultimately leading to awareness of the feelings of others.
